Friday Food For Thought

On my first day of school this semester my english teacher gave us a lecture on hard work and he said that despite all that's going on (college stuff, senior year, other classes, familial obligations, etc.) we should still give our all to school (in particular his class). He went on to say that he has planned the rest of the year according to what would push us academically but also allow us to enjoy our last semester as high school students. He wanted us to trust him and hoped that we would begin and end the new semester without complaints. I complain about my lack of sleep, my hunger, my socks showing under my jeans, my height (or lack there of), my grades, etc. But what my teacher pointed out was that by complaining we are saying that we have been wronged, something is unfair. However, we shouldn't feel that way at all. Instead we should be thankful for that moment, thankful for what we have, and what we don't have. If we look at our lives how many times a day do we spend complaining? We probably waste more time hating life than we do appreciating and loving it. I was really happy yesterday when I got to pass on that little piece of advice originally from my teacher to one of my best friends. It was rewarding to know that I might have helped someone see the beauty or the good things in their life. To sum it up a German proverb (so unlike me*):

Instead of complaining that the rosebush is full of thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses

After Christmas Shopping

Me:
Gifted Steve Madden Boots, Old Navy Leggings, Gifted Ring, Borrowed Necklace, BDG T-Shirt, Gifted byCorpus Chambray Shirt, Bag c/o Urban Outfitters

The day after Christmas my Mom, Sister, and I decided to do a little shopping seeing as the prices were incredibly low! We had a fun time, which included my Mom getting into an argument with two Hollister employees, eating Patix's Pizza, scoring a great deal on jeans, and heading over to watch The King's Speech. I also visited my friend who just had jaw surgery and can't really talk. It was awfully difficult not to laugh with her because her mouth is rubber banded shut. It was a great way to end the Christmas Celebration! But the festivities aren't over get ready for New Years!
 Sister:
Boots c/o A'GACI, Cardigan c/o H&M, Gifted Jeans, Gifted Set of 3 Rings, Gifted Striped Shirt Hollister, Bag Forever21, Scarf Forlove 21
ps: I finally got rain boots (seen above)!

Six Down Five More to Go

Too Happy!
As I have mentioned a few times I am applying to colleges right now and it has been a very stressful(fun) six months. These months included traveling to new and different places for my dad and I, tons of essay writing, lots of blank pages, headaches, and a lot of searching. But by the end of December the process will be over and all we can do is wait and enjoy the rest of Senior year! I would also like to say that I just submitted three more applications (Kenyon College, Boston College, and St. Mary's College of California)!  I am way too happy despite finals !

30? I've lost track...

How can you be calm?
I feel like I've been running in a little hamster wheel for about 5 weeks now- and its beginning to hit me. Even though we just had a break- I cannot wait for winter vacation. My goal time to be in bed is being broken on a daily basis- not cool. I just miss "me" time- when I get to read blogs endlessly, read as many magazines in one sitting, enjoy shopping with my mom (and not be stressing about my test tomorrow), watching trashy reality TV with my sister, and indulging in countless hours of laughter with my best friends. I hope the coming weeks (finals!) will bring you happiness and peace- cause I know I need it.
Here are my 5 from my When I was Seventeen List:
  1. Shoot a gun (@ a shooting range of course!)
  2. Hike the Lost Coast
  3. Ride on a motorcycle/vespa (which will totally be possible, cause my DEALL is mototrcycle!)
  4. Meditate (which will probably end up with me checking the clock every 1 second)
  5. Graduate high school and go to a College (Which will make me the first person in my family to go to College in the United States!)

Success!

I just sent in my UC application!! It's a huge sense of relief but at the same time I am scared shitless. Its been a long journey but I couldn't be happier that I am done. I am so thankful that this moment finally came- I was beginning to get worried. I want to thank my parents and sister- for being incredibly supportive, my friends- for listening and at times editing my essays, and my college counselor!
I think I'll be breathing a lot easier now.

This makes 15

The next five on my When I was Seventeen... list are:

1. learn to sail
2. jump off a cliff (I am afraid of heights, so free falling may cause me to pee in my pants!)
3. build a killer sand castle
4. swim with dolphins
5. make a full meal for someone (complete with dessert)

Most of this weeks five require water, which might just be me craving some summer. I also have no idea how I intend to learn to sail, but I'll figure something out. I also don't think my parents would let me cook dinner for them, they probably think I would be giving them uncooked meat or something. But this list isn't only for show I can say that I have climbed a tree and done something illegal (both of which I did very recently). My crime wasn't that bad (just stole a newspaper from a certain coffee shop, unintentionally though), and I didn't get caught so no biggie.

The song that I am totally in love with right now, comes courtesy of this weeks Gossip Girl: Dancing on My Own by Robyn.

Here it goes:
1. Fall in love
2. Wear a wig
3. Get my palm read
4. Zip line
5. Build a fire- from scratch

My song of the week comes from a Gatorade commercial "Gatorade has Evolved"

When I was Seventeen...

As I was watching, When I was Seventeen (celebrities talk about their life as a seventeen year old) on MTV,  I wondered what I would say I did. I was still sixteen at the time and decided to make a list of things I would do before I was eighteen. After many months of pondering, I came up with a list of about 40 things. My best friend and I decided that as the year went on we could continue to add on to the list, so we could do as many things as possible. So each Thursday I thought I'd share five things on my list.
1. donate blood
2. go to Coachella
3. write a screenplay
4. go to a corn maze
5. park the car
Some of them are a little silly (I still can't park!).

Is there anything you guys want to do before a certain age? or just in life in general?
